The Story
Katherine, an embittered young war widow, manages the extensive farming operation of her powerful father, Missouri Senator Walter Lorberg. Stefan, a former professor of agriculture, now a captured German soldier, arrives at the Lorberg farm as part of a POW labor force. Tasked with establishing a vineyard on the farm, Katherine must rely on Stefan’s knowledge and experience in spite of her fears. Her initial resentment turns to respect, then to an undeniable longing that she can no longer resist. When forced to face a powerful enemy that puts them in mortal danger, their forbidden love is revealed.
The Enemy Among Us is based on the forgotten story of German POWs interned in America's heartland during World War II.
The script by Bobbie Lautenschlager and David Fiedler is adapted from Dave's novel, My Enemy, My Love, which was inspired by his previous award-winning nonfiction work, The Enemy Among Us: POWs in Missouri During World War II.
